A Message from Glenn... On Measuring Outcomes

WFYC is committed to helping our Affiliate Members achieve better youth outcomes. Strong outcomes are critical to the youth you serve and the long-term success of your organization. Programs, partnerships, and sustained funding relationships need strong impact measurements. However, the term “impact measurement” is often misused and misunderstood. Usually impact measurements are confused with “outputs”, such as the number of program units, youth served, daily participation, or some other quantifiable number. True impacts are changes in behaviors or attitudes that are a result of participation in programs or other youth initiatives. This makes impact measurements harder to collect.

To secure reliable impact measurements, you should always start with a good understanding of your status as a youth organization. This data-driven analysis requires an investment of your time and effort, but it is well worth the results. Working directly with a committee of Affiliate Members, WFYC has developed an organizational assessment tool appropriate for the multilingual, multicultural, and multi-technological organizations we serve. Designed to measure the health and progress of our Affiliate Members and set goals for continued development, the Measurement and Advancement Planning (MAP) assessment tool and the subsequent Technical Assistance Plan (TAP) ultimately ensure strong impact measurements and better youth outcomes.

While our Affiliate Members come in all shapes and sizes, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to youth development, there are some universal standards for building and maintaining successful, impactful organizations. MAP and TAP will help ensure Affiliate success. The entire WFYC team looks forward to supporting our Affiliate’s efforts to become global youth development leaders. We know they are needed now more than ever.

New Affiliate Showcase

Tarde Sin Edades (Afternoon Without Ages) is a brand-new program that has launched in Chile with a focus on serving the most vulnerable: youth and the elderly. Launched during the pandemic, the club has served the young, and the young at heart, with a creative formula that allows the groups to learn from each other. With all programs (including art, tutoring, storytelling, and more) being delivered online, club staff are learning and improving processes every day.

With great successes already happening between these two age groups, the club is excited to discover the learning and connections that will happen once in-person activities resume. Welcome to WFYC Tarde Sin Edades!
Inspirational Notes

Faustina Takyi was a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ghana (Anomabo area). As Faustina was the club’s only blind member, the club leadership was there for her every step of the way. The club assisted with Faustina’s secondary education tuition and the club coordinator and headmaster, lsaac, spent countless hours inspiring and motivating Faustina to reach her highest potential. Club board member, Mr. Acquah, even purchased a popcorn machine for Faustina’s mother to build a business and generate income.

Faustina is the only member of her family to complete high school and enter university. She just recently finished her second year at Cape Coast University in Ghana where she is pursuing her BA in Religious & Moral Education and Ghanaian Language. She wants to be a teacher and now volunteers at her former Anomabo club to inspire other youth.

2. At least once a year, consider having a “President’s Council” or meeting which includes the leaders of auxiliary or non-board support groups and past... Read More
